Down at Plot No 52 in the Aditya Fort View area of Puppalguda, you’ll find our school. It’s tucked away a bit in Manikonda, but people around here know the spot. The building stands out when you’re driving past the residential blocks nearby. Every morning, the sun hits the front windows while we’re setting up the registers. It gets pretty hectic around eight when the buses or parents start dropping everyone off. We have different rooms for the different grades, and the hallways are usually lined with bags and water bottles. The floors are stone, which stays a bit cool during the hotter Hyderabad months. Sometimes the fans make a bit of noise, but we’re used to it by now. The staff room is usually cluttered with notebooks and half-drunk cups of tea. We don’t have much in the way of big gardens, but there’s enough space for the kids to stand around during the morning assembly. It is a straightforward setup really. No one here is trying to be anything other than a local school doing its job day in and day out. When the final bell rings, the whole building feels a bit empty and quiet until the next morning. It’s just how it goes here. We make sure the gates are locked tight and then head home ourselves, ready to do it all again tomorrow.
