Azad Public School is situated over on Road No. 44 in Madhapur. People often get us mixed up with other schools nearby, but we’re the one at number 725. The morning starts with the sound of cycles and parents dropping kids off at the front. It’s a public school, so we get students from all sorts of backgrounds. The hallways are usually a bit cluttered with charts and projects the kids have made in their classes. It isn’t the quietest place, especially during the lunch break when everyone is out in the corridors talking. We have a small office where we handle the registrations and the day-to-day paperwork that never seems to end. The desks are a bit old, and some of the chairs creak when you sit down. We just focus on getting through the syllabus and making sure the students know their stuff before the exams come around. Hyderabad has grown so fast, and Madhapur is basically the center of the IT world now, but we just stick to our schedule inside the building. We have teachers who have been here for a decade, and they know most of the local families by name. It’s just a regular part of the neighborhood where kids come to study. We don’t have any big slogans or shiny posters. We just open the gates in the morning and do the work until it’s time to head home. Sometimes the afternoon sun hits the front of the building quite hard, but we have some old curtains to keep things okay.
