Our workshop is at Block No. 27 on Plot No. 8. It’s a pretty standard industrial plot. We make different things out of rubber here. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell of raw rubber and the heat from the molding machines. It’s a constant sound of thumping and hissing throughout the day. We have a small crew and everyone has a specific task, whether it’s trimming the edges off parts or packing them into crates. The machines are old but we keep them running with regular oiling and a bit of care. We don't have a fancy lunchroom, so we usually just eat together at a small table in the corner. The floor is concrete and has seen a lot of wear over the years. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a shiny office. We just care about getting the rubber parts out the door so the customers can use them. Sometimes a batch doesn't come out right and we have to start over, which is frustrating, but it’s part of the job. We deal with the various paperwork that comes with running a small unit. It's a lot of manual work and standing on your feet for long hours. By the time the shift ends, we are tired but it feels good to have made something real and useful for someone out there who needs it.
