Ash Art & Craft Classes

Our classes happen on the first floor of the Lokhandewala Apartment in Barkatpura. We are right on Street Number 7, just across from Bristlecone Hospital. It’s a nice enough building, though the elevator is a bit slow sometimes so most people just take the stairs. The space is filled with paint, paper, and all sorts of craft supplies. It’s never really tidy because there is always some project going on. We have tables pushed together so everyone can work. The light is pretty good in the mornings because of the big windows facing the street. You can hear the sounds of Hyderabad outside, but once people start painting, they usually stop noticing. We get children and adults coming in at different times. Sometimes the floor gets stained with spilled ink or paint, but it gives the place some character. We aren't trying to be a high-end gallery; it’s just a workshop where people come to make things. Most of our students are from the local area around Barkatpura. We spend a lot of time cleaning brushes and putting things away at the end of the day. It’s a small operation, just a few of us making sure there are enough supplies for everyone. It’s a bit of a squeeze when the weekend classes are full, but we make it work. We like the creative mess we have here. It feels like a real community space for people who like to use their hands.
