Ai Maa Gayatri High School

Down on Seven Town Road in the Aruna Colony area of Toli Chowki, that’s where you’ll find Ai Maa Gayatri High School. We’ve been at this spot in Hyderabad for a good while now. It’s a practical building, nothing too over the top. The neighborhood is fairly quiet compared to the main road, which is nice for the classrooms. We have a few floors and the rooms are usually filled with the sound of kids reciting things. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, so we keep the windows open. The staff room is a bit cramped because we have so many books and papers piled up everywhere. We drink a lot of tea while we grade papers. It’s just a regular high school. We don't have a big fancy website or anything like that. Most people find us just by walking past or hearing about us from neighbors. The gate is usually open early in the morning. We see the kids coming in with their heavy bags. Some of them live just a few houses away. It’s a very local atmosphere here. We deal with the usual stuff like broken chalk and leaky taps during the monsoon. We just take care of the building and the students as best as we can. It’s a lot of work keeping everything organized, but it’s what we do every day. Nothing more, nothing less. We just keep our heads down and do the teaching part. It's steady work.
