Unitex Fashions (india) Exports is located on the 2nd floor at 154 G. T. Road (s). It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, but once you’re here, you’ll see the whole operation laid out. The noise from the G.T. Road traffic usually drifts up through the windows, so it’s never really quiet. We’ve got rows of tables where the fabric gets laid out and cut. There are a few sewing machines humming in the corner most of the day. Our space isn't like those big modern factories; it’s more lived-in and crowded with rolls of cloth and sample pieces hanging from the walls. We spend a lot of time checking seams and looking at patterns. Usually, someone is boiling water for tea in the back corner. The second floor gets a decent breeze if we leave the windows open, which helps when it’s humid out. We aren't trying to be anything other than a working fashion export house. Most of the staff has been here for a long time, so we don't need to say much to each other to get things moving. We handle the orders as they come in, pack them into bags, and get them ready for the transit down to the shipping ports. It’s simple, steady work that keeps us busy from Monday through Saturday. The floors are a bit creaky, and the walls could use some paint, but it works for us.
