Sr Threads

We are located at 70, N. S. Avenue in Serampore. It’s an old building, but it suits us just fine. Sr Threads is really just a small operation. We have rows and rows of different colored threads and some machinery that makes a lot of noise when it is running. Serampore has a long history with this kind of work, and we’re just one small part of it. The light inside isn’t the best, so we usually keep the big doors open during the day. You can hear the traffic from the avenue while we work. My sister and I run the place mostly. She’s better with the numbers, and I handle the machines and the heavy lifting. We get a lot of local tailors coming in to pick out specific colors. Sometimes they bring a piece of cloth and we have to spend an hour trying to match it perfectly. It’s tedious but we don’t mind. We don’t have a fancy showroom. It’s just a workshop with shelves full of spools. We’ve been here for years and the neighbors know us well. We drink a lot of tea and talk to anyone who stops by. It’s a simple business. We make enough to keep things going and that’s plenty for us. There’s always something to fix or a spill to clean up, but that’s life in the thread business.
