If you find yourself on Roy K N Chatterjee Street in Bally, you’ll probably see our place. We’re at number 13. It’s a busy street in Howrah, and we’ve been here for quite some time now. We sell building materials, so there’s usually a lot of heavy lifting going on. We’ve got bags of cement, bricks, and all sorts of hardware piled up. It’s a dusty job, and your clothes are never really clean by the end of the day. We talk to a lot of local masons and house owners who are trying to fix up their places. The traffic in Howrah can be a nightmare, especially when we’re trying to get a delivery truck out, but we manage. The shop isn't much to look at, just a counter and a lot of storage space behind it. We don't have a website or anything like that; people just walk in or call us on the phone. We know most of the regulars by name and how they like to pay. Sometimes we argue about prices or how long a delivery will take, but it’s all part of the business. West Bengal is a place where you have to be patient, and we’ve learned that over the years. We just try to keep enough stock so that when a builder needs something, we have it ready. It’s a basic business, but people always need to build things.
