Koley Engineering Works

Koley Engineering Works is located on Ichapur Road in Das Nagar. This area is quite famous for engineering shops so we fit right in with the rest of the neighborhood. The road outside is always busy with rickshaws and lorries carrying raw materials. Inside our workspace, there is the constant hum of lathes and grinding wheels. We have been working here for quite a while and the walls show the age of the place with soot and oil stains. It is a very hands-on kind of environment where we are always measuring things or welding parts together. There is no receptionist or fancy waiting room here. If you come by, you’ll probably find us in overalls busy with some piece of iron or steel. We usually have the radio playing in the background but you can barely hear it over the noise of the machines. Das Nagar has a specific smell of burnt metal and grease that never really goes away. We keep our tools organized in old wooden cabinets and everyone knows where everything is. Lunch is usually a quick affair brought from home. We don't spend much time on anything other than the work at hand on Ichapur Road. It is a tough job but it is what we know how to do. The neighbors are all doing similar things so there is a bit of a community feel among the workers here. It gets very dark on this road after the shops close.
