Indofil Chemicals Company

Over here in Howrah, specifically at Hazarhat Kalitala Lane in Shibpur, things feel a bit different. The Indofil Chemicals Company operates out of this old part of town where the lanes are narrow and the buildings are packed close together. Our address at 2A/7 is easy to miss if you aren't looking for the Kalitala temple nearby. The office is a bit old-fashioned, with heavy wooden doors and a lot of paper files instead of everything being on a screen. It gets quite damp during the monsoon season, so we spend a lot of time making sure the paperwork doesn't get ruined. There’s a small tea stall just outside the lane where we take our breaks and watch the rickshaws go by. The guys working here have been with the company for years and they know every inch of this neighborhood. We don’t really do much in the way of advertising because everyone in Shibpur knows what we do. It’s a lot of manual work, checking lists and talking to the warehouse folks. We don’t have a big corporate lobby with a receptionist. You just walk in and find someone at a desk who can help you out. It’s a bit messy and crowded sometimes, but that’s just the way we like it because it means there’s plenty of work to keep us occupied all day long. We just get through the lists and go home.
