We are located in Fancy Market, specifically at Shop No 9 and 10, over in Bankra, Howrah. If you’ve ever been to this market, you know it is always loud and full of people moving around. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with rolls of different textiles. There isn't much room to walk around once a few customers come in, so we are always moving things out of the way to show off a specific pattern or color. We’ve been in these two stalls for years now. It’s a family-run kind of thing, and we mostly just talk to people who come in looking for fabric for clothes or curtains. The light in the market isn't the best, so we often have to take the cloth out to the doorway so people can see the real color in the sunlight. We don't have air conditioning or anything fancy like that, just a couple of ceiling fans that move the hot air around. It gets very busy during the festival seasons, and we barely have time to sit down or even eat lunch. We don't really do much in the way of marketing; we just rely on people knowing we are here in the market. It’s a lot of heavy lifting with the fabric rolls and a lot of measuring with the wooden meter sticks. We just keep at it day after day, serving the local crowd in Bankra as best as we can. It’s a simple life selling cloth here, just focusing on getting the right piece for the person standing in front of us.
