We are over at 28/1 Bhairab Dutta Lane, which is right in the Nandi Bagaan area of Salkia. Devesh Apparels is a small operation, mostly just a few of us working with fabric and sewing machines every day. The lane is quite narrow, so you have to be careful if you’re trying to bring a vehicle down this way. It’s a typical Salkia neighborhood, very lively and a bit crowded, with neighbors talking across the street and kids running around. We’ve been at this address for some time now. Inside, the space is mostly taken up by big tables for cutting cloth and piles of finished garments waiting to be moved out. It’s not a showroom or anything like that, just a place where the actual work happens. The lighting isn't the best, but we've added a few extra lamps over the workstations so we can see what we're doing properly. When the monsoon hits, the lane gets a bit soggy, but that’s just how it is around here. We usually have the radio playing in the background to keep things moving while we work. It’s a honest living, and we like being part of the local community here in Nandi Bagaan. Most of the people who live nearby know us by now. We don't do much fancy stuff, just keep our heads down and make sure the clothes are put together right before they leave the shop.
