S M B Bricks

Down on Sathanur Road in Denkanikottai, you’ll find us at number 342. It’s a dusty stretch of road, especially when the wind picks up. S M B Bricks is basically just a group of us working the land to get the materials we need. We don't have a big corporate setup. It’s more of a yard where work happens from dawn until the light fades. We supply a lot of the small construction jobs around this part of town. The process is old-fashioned. We mix, we mold, and we fire. There’s no shortcut to getting a solid brick, so we don't try to find one. Some days are slower than others, depending on how many people are building houses that month. We see a lot of the same faces coming back, which is nice. The yard can get a bit disorganized when we have a big batch coming out of the kiln, but we sort it out eventually. My kids sometimes come around after school to help move the smaller bits. It’s a family-run kind of thing, though we have a few extra hands from the village. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just drive up and ask what’s available. It’s worked for us so far, so we just keep doing it the same way. We just keep our heads down and work.
