Running Das Sharma at the Gourhati More intersection keeps us busy from the early hours. Arambagh can get very hot in the summer months, and being right by the main road means there is always noise from the buses and lorries passing through Hooghly. We have been at this location for some time now. The building is older, but it serves our purpose well enough. Usually, it is just a couple of us here managing the inventory and talking to the people who walk in from the village. Post-Arambagh is a place where everyone eventually knows everyone else. We do not bother much with flashy signs or big advertisements. Most of our work comes from folks who live around here or are passing through the More to get to the station. We keep the doors open even when it rains heavy, though the water sometimes splashes in from the street. The shelves are a bit mismatched because we added them one by one as we needed more room. It is not the most modern setup you will see, but it is practical. We spend a lot of time checking the ledger and making sure the supplies are coming in from the distributors on time. Sometimes the trucks are late because of the traffic on the bridge, and we just have to wait it out. It is a slow pace of life in some ways, but there is always something to fix or move around in the shop.
