Our shop, number 18, is right in the heart of the New Grain Market here in Hissar. If you know the 125001 area, you know how busy it gets during the harvest seasons. Hanuman Prasad Pawan Kumar is a name that’s been around the market for a while. It’s a dusty place, honestly. With all the trucks coming in and out, you can’t really keep the floor clean for more than an hour. We’ve stopped trying to be perfect about it. We just focus on the grain and the people we deal with. Every day is a lot of the same thing—weighing, checking, and talking. The sun gets really hot over the market in the summer, and we mostly just stay under the fans in the shop. We don’t have any fancy signs or big ads. People just know we are here at shop eighteen. It’s a practical kind of life. We work when there is work to do and we rest when it’s quiet. Sometimes we sit out front on wooden stools and watch the tractors go by. There’s a lot of noise, shouting from one end of the market to the other, but you get used to it. We aren’t trying to change the world. We just want to do our jobs and go home at the end of the day. It’s been this way for years and we expect to be here for many more.
