City Tiles Ltd.

City Tiles Ltd. is part of what people call Ceramic City. We are located in the Dalpur area, near Katwad Road, which is out toward Prantij. It is quite a drive from Ahmedabad, but this is where all the tile action is. Our facility is basically a giant warehouse and a production line. There is a lot of dust from the clay and the sound of the conveyor belts is constant. We don't have fancy landscaping or a big entrance gate. It is just a practical industrial site. Our workers are mostly local people from the Prantij area. We spend the morning going through the production schedule and the afternoon making sure the trucks are loaded in the right order. The ground is often covered in broken bits of ceramic, so you have to watch your step. We have a small room we call the office where we keep the computer and the billing books. It’s a bit cramped in there, but we don't spend much time sitting down anyway. We are usually out on the floor seeing how the glazes are turning out. Life here is about the daily output and making sure the crates are sturdy enough for the trip to the city. It is hard work, and the days are long, but we have a good rhythm going. We aren't trying to impress anyone; we just make tiles and get them shipped out.
