If you take the Bypass Road in Holenarsipur, you’ll find Podar Jumbo Kids. It’s a place for the little ones, so it’s naturally a bit chaotic most of the time. We have bright colors on the walls, but they’ve faded a bit from the sun coming through the windows. Every morning is a mix of children crying because they don’t want to leave their parents and others running straight for the toy bins. We have a small outdoor area where they can play, but we have to watch them closely so they don’t wander toward the road. The teachers are very patient women from the Hassan area who are used to cleaning up spills and tying shoelaces. We don’t use a lot of high-tech gadgets here; it’s mostly just blocks, crayons, and picture books. The snacks are usually brought from home, and we all sit together on the mats to eat during the break. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going at full speed. We try to keep the place clean, but with twenty toddlers running around, there’s always a bit of a mess by the end of the day. It’s a practical environment where children get used to being away from home for a few hours. We don’t promise anything fancy, just a safe spot for them to learn their ABCs and play with their friends.
