Yamunotri Fed Farmer Producer Company Limited is located up in Village Tunalaka. If you know the area, it is near the Naugaon Post Office in Uttarkashi. Life up here in the mountains is pretty simple but the farming is hard work. We are a bunch of local farmers who decided to team up so we could handle our produce better. The altitude here makes for some good crops, but getting them down the mountain is always a bit of a challenge. Our village is a small place and everyone knows everyone else. We started this company because we wanted to have a bit more say in how our stuff gets sold. It’s not a big operation with a lot of staff. Mostly it’s just us meeting up and deciding what to plant or how to deal with the local markets. The air is fresh in Uttarkashi, and that's good for the plants. We have our registration and all that stuff sorted out now, but at the end of the day, we are still just people who work the soil. We spend our mornings in the fields and our afternoons talking shop. It gets very cold here in the winter, so we have to plan ahead. There is no corporate ladder here, just neighbors trying to make a living off the land and making sure the village stays on its feet.
