Modren Rice & General Mills

Our mill is located in Rurki. Despite the name "Modren," we are actually a pretty traditional setup. We’ve been here in this spot for quite a while. The building has seen better days, but the machines inside still work hard. We handle rice and whatever other general milling needs the local people have. It’s a quiet place most of the year, but everything changes when the harvest comes. Then, it's all hands on deck. We have workers from the surrounding villages who come in to help. We don't have a big corporate structure. If there is a problem, we just talk it out and fix it. I spend most of my day covered in a bit of dust, checking the quality of the grains. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. If someone needs us, they just walk into the yard and call out. We usually have some tea ready for visitors. The weather is our biggest boss. If it rains at the wrong time, it causes a lot of stress. But we’ve learned to take the good with the bad over the years. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s a simple way to make a living, and it feels honest. We aren't trying to change the world. We just want to mill the rice and keep the business going for another year. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of grain.
