About Gurukul International School – Education in Hamirpur
Up here in Ward No-9 in Nalagarh, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Gurukul International School is situated where you can see some of the hills of Solan if the weather is clear enough. The school has been part of this community for a while. We have a decent sized building and some open space for the students to play cricket or just hang out during their breaks. The classrooms have wooden desks that have seen better days, but they serve their purpose. We get a lot of kids from the nearby villages and the town itself. The walk up to the school can be a bit steep for some, but everyone is used to it by now. In the winters, it gets quite chilly, so everyone wears heavy sweaters and we sometimes have to start a bit later if the fog is too thick. Our staff members mostly come from Nalagarh, so we often see the parents at the local market or at the temple on weekends. It’s a small-town kind of feel here. We don't have all the high-tech gadgets you see in fancy advertisements, but we have enough books and teachers who have been here for years. We just try to get through the syllabus and make sure the kids understand what they are reading. It's a simple life at this school, with plenty of chalk dust and the sound of children playing in the yard.
