Lakshmi Trading

Lakshmi Trading is situated down in Sijubari, specifically around the Chariali area on Hatigaon Road. This part of town is always moving, especially with the traffic coming off the main road. We are right there in the middle of it. The building we are in has seen better days, the paint is peeling a bit near the bottom, but it holds up fine against the weather. You can hear the rickshaws honking all day long from our front door. It’s a busy intersection, so there is never a dull moment. We have a small counter where we talk to people who come in. Behind that, there’s a storage area that stays pretty cool even when it’s boiling outside. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who have been working together for years. We know the rhythms of the street, like when the school bus passes or when the market gets crowded on the weekends. Sometimes the rain floods the street a little bit, and we have to put out some bags to keep the water from coming in, but that’s just life in Hatigaon. We keep the kettle going for tea throughout the afternoon because someone is always dropping by for a quick chat about the day's business or just the local news. It’s a practical setup, nothing for show, just enough to get the trading done and keep things moving along smoothly for everyone involved.
