Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok

We sit right on M.G. Road, which is one of the main stretches in the city. You can see the river from some of the higher spots in the building, which is nice when the weather is clear. The hotel has been around for a long time and you can see that in the architecture. It has high ceilings and wide hallways that you don't really see in the newer buildings. We have a lot of rooms to look after, so the staff is always moving around with mops and buckets. The gardens out front take a lot of work to keep green, especially during the dry season. We get a mix of people staying here, from government workers to families visiting for a holiday. The lobby is quite large and has some old wooden furniture that we polish every week. It’s a bit formal compared to some other places, but we still keep things simple. We have a kitchen that stays busy during breakfast time. The smell of tea and toast usually fills the ground floor in the mornings. It’s a big operation but we try to keep it feeling like a local place. Sometimes the traffic on M.G. Road gets backed up and it’s all you can hear, but usually, it’s just a steady hum. We’re just part of the landscape here. There is always something to fix or clean, but that's how it goes with an old building. We've been part of this street for many years.
