Durga Brick Field

Durga Brick Field is located at 315, Maha Kali Grant. We are out near Post Kharapathar in the Tinsukia district. It’s a quiet enough area until the machines start up in the morning. We make bricks out of the local earth. It’s heavy work and mostly outdoors. The sun gets hot out here but the work has to get done. We have piles of bricks waiting to be picked up. Some days are slower than others depending on who needs what for their houses or walls. We keep the kilns going as much as we can. It’s just us working away. The address is easy to find if you know the Kharapathar area. We’ve seen a lot of changes in Tinsukia over the years but the way we make bricks stays mostly the same. You get used to the smell of the smoke and the red dust everywhere. It’s not the kind of job where you stay clean. My hands are always stained from the clay. We just try to make enough for everyone who asks. Sometimes the trucks get stuck if it’s been raining too much. Then we have to wait for the ground to dry out. We don’t do much else besides this. It’s just a local business run by people who live nearby. We wake up early and finish when the light goes down. That’s how it goes at Maha Kali Grant. The stacks of bricks are all over the place. We have a few dogs that hang around the site. The dust gets into everything, your hair and your food. We just eat our lunch sitting on the finished piles.
