About Dadadai Asaam Tea – Food & Beverages in Guwahati
Dadadai Asaam Tea is over on Railway Road. A good landmark to look for is the Bombay Painter, as we are right near them. Being on Railway Road means we hear the trains go by all day and night. The whole building shakes just a little bit when the big freight trains pass through. Our place is basically a large shed where we store all the tea we get from Assam. It is a very basic setup without any frills. I have a small wooden desk near the front where I sit and talk to anyone who stops in. The dust from the road tends to blow inside, so we are constantly cleaning the surfaces. We don't have any fancy lights or displays. The tea just stays in the original bags until someone comes to buy it. It is a very direct and simple way to run a business. We open the shutters when the sun comes up and see who the day brings. Sometimes it is a neighbor or a driver who is looking for a specific type of leaf. We don't do any marketing at all. The sign we have outside has faded quite a bit from the sun over the years. We still use the same heavy scales we bought twenty years ago. They are reliable and we don't see any reason to replace them. We just do our work and go home.
