Sewing Machine Work

We are over here at Plot No 643 in Udyog Vihar Phase V. If you know where the Shiv Mandir is, we are just a short walk from there. It is a busy spot. Most days we are just buried in sewing machines and parts. People bring in all sorts of stuff, from old heavy ones their grandmothers used to new ones that stopped working for no reason. Our floor is usually covered in bits of thread and small screws. We do not have a fancy showroom or anything like that. It is just a workspace where we try to get these things running again. Sometimes a repair takes longer because we have to find a specific part that they do not make anymore. We spend a lot of time cleaning out old grease and putting in new oil. It gets pretty loud when four or five machines are running at once to test them. The heat in the afternoon can be a bit much, but we keep the fans going. It is not glamorous work but it is what we do every day. People from the neighborhood know us and they just drop their machines off and come back later. We try to be honest about whether a machine is worth fixing or if it is just junk. That is pretty much how it goes here. We open early and stay until the work is done for the day. We usually have some tea around noon and talk about the machines that are giving us trouble. It helps to take a break from the noise for a few minutes.
