Chander Parkash Fruit Seller

I have been setting up my spot at 321 in the Sadar Bazar Fruit Market for a long time now. We are right near the Sadar Bazaar Post Office, which is a good landmark if you are trying to find us in the crowd. Every morning starts very early, way before the sun is even up. We have to go and get the best crates of fruit from the big trucks that come in from the farms. My hands are always sticky from oranges or stained from handling grapes. The market is a loud, chaotic place with everyone shouting and carts moving everywhere. It’s a lot of work just to keep the fruit looking nice on the stalls. We try to keep everything fresh, which means moving the stock fast. Some days it is apples, other times it is mangoes depending on what is in season. The post office staff usually walk by in the afternoons. I have known many of my customers for years; they are more like neighbors now. We talk about the weather and the prices while I weigh out a kilo of something for them. It is a simple life, but it keeps me busy. The market can be exhausting with all the heat and the noise, but it is where I have spent most of my life. I just hope the fruit is sweet and the customers go home happy.
