Gajanan Tiles

You can find us at Depot no. 2. It’s a large, open space filled with stacks and stacks of tiles. It’s quite heavy work, as you can imagine. We spend most of our time moving crates and showing people the different patterns we have in stock. The floor is always covered in a bit of ceramic dust, no matter how much we sweep. It’s just part of the business. We don't have a fancy showroom with lights and mirrors. People just walk through the rows of crates to see what they like. It’s very practical. The roof is corrugated metal, so it gets pretty loud when it rains, but it keeps the stock dry. We have a small desk tucked in the corner where we handle the bills and phone calls. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook, and other times it’s quiet for hours. We like the variety of people who come through, from contractors to families fixing up their first home. We don't do much in the way of sales pitches. We just tell people what we have and let them decide. It’s a straightforward way to run a depot. There’s a lot of heavy lifting involved, but we’re used to the physical nature of it. It’s an honest day’s work and we’ve been doing it at this same spot for a long time. It isn't a glamorous job, but it is what we know.
