You’ll find us at House No. 449 on Hanuman Mandir Road in the Betihata area of Gorakhpur. The office is actually an old house that we converted so we could have a place to work. It has that residential feel to it, which we like because it’s not stiff like those new office blocks. Being near the Hanuman Mandir means we hear the temple bells and the general bustle of the neighborhood all day long. At National Software Development, the day starts early. We usually open up, get the fans going, and start going through the list of tasks left over from yesterday. There are about six of us working here on most days. We handle software stuff, mostly fixing bugs or trying to build simple tools for local businesses. The rooms have high ceilings and the floors are that old-fashioned stone that stays cool even when Gorakhpur gets really hot in June. We don’t have a receptionist; if someone knocks on the door, whoever is closest just gets up to see who it is. Sometimes it’s just the mail or someone looking for directions to the temple. Our work isn't flashy. We write code, test things, and sometimes get frustrated when things don't work, but we keep at it until they do. It’s a quiet life on Hanuman Mandir Road, and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of this street. It’s just a group of people working out of an old house.
