Mohan Piston Engineering Works

You can find us near the Delhi Gate, right by the Devi Mandir. It is an old part of the city, and you can feel the history when you walk around here. The shop is always a bit dark inside because the buildings are so close together, but we have some good lamps over the work areas. We deal with pistons and engine parts mostly. It’s greasy work, and there is always a rag tucked into someone’s back pocket. The sound of the bells from the temple is something we hear every day, especially in the mornings and evenings. It’s a nice background to the sound of metal being lathed. We don’t have any fancy signs or glossy brochures. Our walls are covered in old calendars and charts for engine specs. People come to us because we have been here for a long time and know how these older engines put together. We spend a lot of time cleaning parts in buckets of solvent. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. The tea guy comes around twice a day, and we usually take a break then to talk about how the area is changing. Even with all the new shops opening up further out, we’re happy staying right here by the temple.
