Malik Garments

This Malik Garments shop is over in Anil Vihar, which is also in Sector 62, Noida. It’s a bit different from the other markets, maybe a little quieter in the mornings before the rush starts. We’ve been here at this address for a few years now. The shop is small and simple. We have racks along the walls and a glass counter where we keep the smaller items like socks and vests. I usually open up around ten and stay until late evening. The people in Anil Vihar are mostly working-class, so they look for clothes that last a long time. I do most of the work myself, from cleaning the windows to tallying the cash at night. It can be a bit lonely sometimes when business is slow, so I listen to the radio or talk to the guy who sells snacks across the street. We don't have any big signs or neon lights, just the name painted above the door. Most of our customers come because they live within walking distance of the shop. Every few weeks, I have to go through the inventory and figure out what’s not selling. It’s a lot of folding and sorting through different colors and sizes. Sometimes the kids from the street play cricket nearby and I have to watch out for the ball hitting our entrance. It’s just a normal, everyday shop in Noida where we try to get things right. It's a living and it keeps us occupied.
