Aurangzeb Khan

Ghaziabad Civil Court is a busy place and if you come to room 675, you will find Aurangzeb Khan. The desks here are usually covered in files and papers that have been sitting there for quite a while. It gets really hot in the summer months and the ceiling fans just move the warm air around, but we are used to it. Outside, there is always the sound of people talking loudly and lawyers rushing to different rooms to catch their cases. We spend most of the day looking through legal documents and meeting folks who have things to sort out at the court. It is not a fancy office with big leather chairs or anything like that. It is just a practical space where the actual work happens. Sometimes the chai wala comes by with a tray of tea and that is usually the best part of the afternoon. People come and go all day, asking questions or checking on the status of their papers. We just keep track of everything as best as we can. The building itself is quite old and has that specific smell of old paper and dust that you find in government buildings. It is just how things are here at the court. You learn to work with the noise and the crowd. We have been in this spot for a good amount of time now. The routine stays the same mostly. We start early and stay until the work is done.
