Our spot is located right near the Norling Resort Spa, so we get to see a lot of people coming and going in their heavy winter coats. The air up here is crisp, and you can usually see the mist rolling in over the trees in the early mornings. We have a small office where we keep our logbooks and the keys for the vehicles we use to take people up into the higher hills. It’s a simple place with a heater that hums in the corner and a few rugged mats to catch the mud from everyone’s boots. We spend a lot of time checking the weather reports and talking to other drivers about which roads are clear and which ones are blocked by snow or rocks. The walls have a few posters of the local peaks, and there’s always a smell of pine wood and tea in the air. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know the local routes like the back of our hands. It’s a lot of work making sure the cars are running right in the cold and that everyone has enough blankets for the long drives. Sometimes we just sit on the steps outside and watch the clouds move across the valley while we wait for the next group to arrive. It’s a quiet life, mostly dictated by the seasons and the terrain around us, and we just handle things as they come.
