Down in Gadchiroli, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Villarban Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited is located at Shri M.G. Pipre’s place in Govindpur, near Yeoli. This is a heavily forested area, and the farming here has its own set of problems. We don't have the same access to big markets as people closer to Mumbai or Pune. That’s why we got together. We needed a name and a legal way to do business together so we could reach further out. It’s a small operation, really. We spend most of our time out in the fields or in the woods, and then we come back to the house to handle the administrative side of things. It’s not something we particularly enjoy, but it has to be done if we want to get paid fairly. The ground here is different, and we grow things that suit this climate. Being in Gadchiroli means we have to be a bit more self-reliant. We don't expect anyone to come and save us, so we look out for each other. Some of us have been friends for years, and now we are business partners in this company. It’s just a way to make sure our families are taken care of and that the local agriculture doesn't just disappear. We are just regular people trying to make a living off the land we’ve always lived on, despite the challenges of the terrain.
