Sonu Rasoi

This is Sonu Rasoi over in Sehatpur. Our shop is number one in Vijay Market. Faridabad has a lot of these little markets and ours is quite tucked away in the Palla area. It's a small place. We spend a lot of time at the counter or near the stove. The market gets quite busy in the mornings when people are buying their daily things. Sehatpur is a bit of a crowded area so there’s always something happening outside the door. We have some shelves for the supplies and a small space where the cooking happens. The paint is peeling a little in the corner but we don't mind. We use simple metal plates and glasses. It's not like a restaurant in a mall. It's just a local kitchen. The smell of frying usually fills up the whole shop. We have to keep the fans going so it doesn't get too hot for us while we work. My hands are usually busy with dough or cleaning up. We get our water from the local supply. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use candles or just wait. It’s a very basic life here in Faridabad. We know the neighbors and the other shop owners in Vijay Market. We just keep our heads down and work through the day until it's time to close up and walk home. We have been doing this for long enough that the routine feels very natural to us.
