Shankar Bartan Bhandar

I've been here at 1e/25 Bhoor Colony for a while. It's a small shop with a lot of steel and brass. People come in looking for a pressure cooker or maybe just a spoon. We have stacks of plates and tiffin boxes everywhere. My father used to run this place. It gets dusty because of the road, but we try to keep things tidy enough. When someone's daughter is getting married, they come here to buy the big sets. I spend most of my day moving boxes or counting lids. Sometimes the stock takes up too much space. You know how it is in NIT. It’s a busy spot. We don't have fancy lights or anything. Just the stuff people need for their kitchens. Sometimes I forget where I put the smaller pans, but I usually find them. If you walk past the colony, you'll see the stainless steel shining outside. We stay open until late evening, usually. It’s just how we do things here. The neighbors stop by to chat. I’ve seen kids grow up and now they bring their own kids to buy a water bottle for school. Nothing special, just a shop for everyday things. We try to keep the prices fair because we live here too. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling. We use a wooden ladder to reach the big stock pots at the top. It’s a bit wobbly, but it does the job. I keep a ledger for the regular customers who pay at the end of the month.
