Rangoli Ice Cream Parlour

Rangoli Ice Cream Parlour is right here at Faridabad N I T, specifically near Kalyan Singh Chowk at 1/ 13/K. The shop isn't anything fancy, just a regular place where the freezers hum all day long. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to keep the lids shut tight so nothing melts. The floors are white tile and we spend a lot of time mopping up sticky drops that the kids leave behind. Outside, the chowk is always noisy with rickshaws and cars honking. You can see the traffic from the front window while you sit. We have these plastic chairs that people use while they eat their scoops. In the evenings, the light from our sign flickers a little bit. It gets busy after dinner when families walk over from the nearby blocks in N I T. We spend our mornings checking the inventory and making sure the temperature settings are right. The freezer stays at a specific degree so the texture doesn't get too soft. It’s mostly just us two or three people working the shifts, wearing our aprons and waiting for the next person to walk in. There’s a particular smell of cold air and sugar when you open the cabinets. Sometimes kids come in with a few coins and it takes them forever to choose what they want. We just stand there and wait. It’s a simple life at the shop. The 1/ 13/K spot has been our daily routine for a long while now.
