Machino

Our place is Plot No.-10, right in the middle of the Sanjay Memorial Industrial Estate. If you know the Y.M.C.A., we are just across from there in Phase II. It’s a convenient location because everyone knows the landmark. We’ve been at Machino for a good bit of time, watching the area grow and change. There used to be more empty space around here, but now it’s all filled up with warehouses and small shops. The traffic can get a bit much during the evening rush, so we usually try to get our loading done early in the day. Inside our walls, it’s mostly just the sound of the equipment and someone calling out instructions. We don’t have a big office or anything like that. Just a desk and some chairs where we handle the paperwork between tasks. It gets hot in the summer, so we keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze comes through the estate. Most of the people working here live nearby, so they walk or bike in. It feels like a community in a way, knowing the guys at the next plot over. We share tea sometimes when things aren't too busy. We don’t worry much about being the biggest shop on the block. We just focus on getting through the pile of work on the floor. It’s honest, steady labor that keeps us going year after year.
