V K Bappukutty & Sons is right in the middle of the chaos at Broadway Junction. If you know Cochin, you know how busy Broadway Bazaar can get. It’s one of those places where there is always something happening, trucks unloading, people shouting, and the smell of the market everywhere. We’ve been here at the Broadway Post area for generations. The shop itself feels like a bit of a maze because we have so much stuff tucked into every corner. It’s an old building, so the walls are thick and the floors are a bit uneven, but it has character. My brothers and I run the daily operations now, following in the footsteps of our father and grandfather. We don't really have a 'style' here; it’s just about getting the goods in and getting them out to the people who need them. Most of our customers are old-timers who have been coming to us for years. They stop by for a chat as much as they do for the supplies. Sometimes it gets so busy we can barely hear ourselves talk over the noise from the bazaar outside. We don't bother with much modern technology, just the basics to keep things moving. It’s hard work, and the humidity in Cochin doesn't make it any easier, but we wouldn't want to be anywhere else but Broadway. It’s where our family belongs and where we keep the doors open every day.
