Gujarath Shop

If you are walking down Broadway, you will find Gujarath Shop right opposite the Bharat Coffee House. Or if you are coming from the other side, it is opposite Carryon Daze. It is a garam masala store, so the air inside is always heavy with the scent of cloves, cardamom, and pepper. It gets into your clothes and follows you home. The shop is filled with bags and jars of spices. It is not a very big space, and it can get a bit cramped when more than two people are inside at once. Broadway is always crowded, with people pushing past and vendors calling out. We just stay here behind the counter, weighing out spices for whoever comes in. Sometimes it gets dusty because of the powders, but that is just how a spice shop is. The Bharat Coffee House across the way usually has a line of people, and we watch them while we work. It’s been here for a long time, and the wooden shelves have started to sag a bit under the weight of the jars. We don't really do any fancy packaging. Most things go into simple bags and get tied up with a bit of string. It is a local place for local people who need their kitchen staples. The morning sun hits the front of the shop quite hard, so we usually keep the shade down until the afternoon.
