Ashis Super Mercato

Working at Ashis Super Mercato means we are right in the thick of things on Marine Drive. Being near Joy Alukkas brings in a lot of people who are out for the day. It’s a busy spot, and we are usually running around from the moment we open the doors. We don't have a lot of time for sitting down. The shop floor is always needing something—refilling milk or tidying up the aisles. It’s a lot of work keeping a place like this going. The staff here is just a bunch of regular people from the neighborhood. We know the regulars who come in every evening for their bread or snacks. The sea breeze from Marine Drive is nice, but mostly we are too busy inside to notice it. We don't have any fancy slogans. We just sell what people need for their homes. Sometimes the delivery trucks are late because of the traffic on the coast road, and that makes things a bit chaotic for an hour or two. We just deal with it. It’s not like those big chain stores where everything is perfect. Here, it’s loud, busy, and very real. We try to keep the prices fair and the shelves stocked as much as we can manage. We don't have any interest in opening more locations. One store is enough trouble as it is. We spend our evenings checking what needs to be ordered for the next morning. Sometimes we stay after closing just to sweep up all the sand that people track in from the beach. It’s a never-ending job, but it feels good to see the place clean.
