This part of Jharkhand is known for this kind of work, so we fit right in with the landscape. Our gates are usually open early because the heat from the furnace gets to be a lot by midday. You can hear the clinking of castings and the hum of the machinery from the street. It is a gritty job. There is soot on the walls and the floors are never really clean for long. We spend most of our time looking at molds and making sure the metal pours right. The office is small and gets a bit cramped when the drivers come in with their paperwork.
