City Hut Dhaba

We are located on Oakland Road in Shillong. Most people know the area because the Assembly Hotel is nearby. This is a dhaba, so it is a very casual place to eat. We have a lot of wood in the building and the atmosphere is quite rustic. Since Shillong is often cold or rainy, we try to keep the inside feeling warm and dry. We have been here on Oakland Road for a long time. The tables are simple and we don't use any tablecloths or anything like that. It is the kind of place where you can just walk in with your muddy boots and nobody will mind. We see a mix of local residents and tourists who are traveling through the hills. The kitchen is busy from the morning until we close at night. We don't have a big corporate team, just a few cooks and some people to bring the food out. The menu is mostly comfort food that helps people stay warm. Sometimes when the rain is heavy, customers will sit for a long time drinking tea and waiting for it to stop. We don't mind that at all. It is just how things are in the mountains. We focus on making sure there is enough food for everyone and that the stove stays hot. It is a simple life up here and we enjoy seeing all the different people who stop by.
