Sita Ram General Provision Store

Our store is located at Khichripur 16316, and it has been a part of this street for many years. It is a general provision store, which means we carry a little bit of everything that a household might need during the week. We have big open sacks of grain and flour sitting on the floor, and the walls are lined with jars of spices, tea leaves, and snacks. The space is a bit tight, so you have to watch your step when you come inside. Most of our customers are neighbors who live just around the corner, so we see the same faces every single day. We know who likes which brand of soap and who usually comes in for fresh milk in the morning. We do not use any fancy machines for our accounts; we just have a thick notebook where we write down what people owe or what we need to order next. Sometimes the deliveries from the wholesalers arrive all at once, and the whole shop gets blocked with crates and boxes for an hour while we sort through them. It is a simple way of doing business, based on knowing people and having what they need when they run out of sugar or oil. The fan on the ceiling hums all day long, and there is usually a cat sleeping somewhere near the front door. We open early and stay open until late at night because you never know when someone will realize they forgot to buy salt for their cooking.
