If you head over to Mayur Vihar, specifically the DDA Flats in Pocket I, you’ll find us at 147-F. It’s a residential-style setup, which makes the whole place smell like cardamom and black pepper most days. We started this because we had some good connections back in Kerala and wanted to bring those spices up here to the city. It’s not a big fancy showroom with bright lights. It’s more of a place where we store the bags and sort through the shipments that come in. We spend a lot of time weighing things out and putting them into smaller packets for people. The neighbors usually know when a new shipment arrives because the aroma is pretty strong and carries through the hallway. We handle everything from turmeric to cloves. It's just a few of us working here, mostly family and a couple of helpers who’ve been with us forever. We don't really do much advertising; people usually find us through word of mouth or by seeing the address on a slip of paper. The DDA flats are a bit crowded, so parking can be a real pain if you're coming by car. We mostly deal with local shops and some regular customers who like getting their spices from a smaller place rather than a big store. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until evening. We don't have a big mission statement. We just like spices and we like selling them.
