Our shop is in Gandhi Nagar at No. Ix/6050 which is on Shivaji Gali No. 3. If you know Gandhi Nagar you know how crowded and tight the lanes are. It is one of the busiest cloth markets around. We are surrounded by other shops selling fabrics and ready-made clothes. Our space is filled with stacks of garments and rolls of cloth that reach all the way to the ceiling. We mostly do wholesale so there are always bundles tied up with string waiting to be sent out. It gets very hectic in the afternoons when customers are pushing through the narrow street to find what they need. We have a few sewing machines in the back for quick fixes or small orders. The iron is always hot and there is a lot of steam in the air. We talk to vendors and buyers all day long and the phone never really stops ringing. Sometimes we get a bit overwhelmed with the orders but we just manage them one by one. The tea stall guy brings us glass cups of hot tea a few times a day which helps keep us going. It is a noisy place with people haggling and motorcycles trying to squeeze through the gali. We’ve been here for a long time and we know most of the other shopkeepers. It is just a typical day in the garment trade.
