Coffee Day over here in New Kondli is usually a bit noisy. We are right at D-1/225 in Mayur Vihar-3. It’s a pretty standard spot. I show up early to get the machines warmed up. The smell of coffee hits you as soon as you open the door. It’s a small space, so it fills up fast when the college kids or the office workers from around here come in. The tables have a few scratches on them, and the floor needs a sweep every hour or so because of the dust from the street outside. I spend most of my shift behind the counter. Sometimes the milk delivery is late, and we have to wait around, which is annoying. The light in the back flickers sometimes, and we keep saying we will fix it, but we never quite get to it. People mostly just want their drinks fast so they can get on with their day. It’s not like those fancy places in the city center. It feels more like a local hangout. We have a few regulars who come in every single morning at 9:00 am sharp. We know their names and exactly what they want without them asking. New Delhi is always moving, and we are just here in our little corner of Mayur Vihar, making sure the coffee is hot and the seats are somewhat comfortable for whoever walks in.
