We are situated on the first floor of the Choudhary Inder Singh Market in Khichripur, at F-1. Being on the first floor means we’re constantly hearing the noise from the stalls down below. It’s a busy market with a lot of shouting, haggling, and the smell of various foods wafting up through the windows. Our space is filled with the smell of plastic and the sound of packing tape being pulled off the rolls. We have bags and containers of different shapes and sizes stacked up against almost every wall. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes, trying to navigate between the piles to find exactly what we need. The floor is concrete and can get quite cold in the winter. We use a small portable heater to keep our hands warm while we work. The stairs leading up to our unit are a bit narrow and steep, which makes moving heavy loads a bit of a challenge. We’ve had a few close calls, but we’ve managed so far. It’s a hardworking environment where nobody is afraid to get their hands a bit dirty. We don't have a computer system for everything; a lot of our notes are still written on scraps of paper or in thick notebooks kept on the main counter. It might seem old-fashioned to some, but it works for us in this market setting. We just keep moving and getting things out the door every day.
