Shri Shiva Shankar Bakery

You’ll find Shri Shiva Shankar Bakery tucked away behind Chandrakala Talkies on Station Road. It’s a handy spot because of the theater and the train station being so close. We get a lot of foot traffic from people catching their commute. We keep things pretty basic here. There’s always flour on someone’s apron and the smell of yeast in the air. We do mostly local favorites, stuff people like to eat with their tea. The shop isn't very big, so it gets crowded fast around five in the evening. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just rely on people walking past and seeing what’s in the glass cases. Sometimes the batches come out a little darker than others, but people don’t seem to mind much as long as it tastes right. It’s a family-run kind of place, so you’ll usually see one of us behind the counter. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, but the bakery stays pretty much the same. The roof leaks a tiny bit when the monsoon hits hard, but we put a bucket out and keep going. We aren't trying to be the biggest place around, just a reliable one for the folks on Station Road. It’s hard work, standing on your feet all day, but it’s what we know. We close up once the trays are empty for the day.
