Green Valley Public School

Down in Somanayakanpatti Village near Jolarpettai, things move a bit slower than they do in the big cities. Green Valley Public School is tucked away here in this part of Vellore, surrounded by a lot of trees and open space which is a nice change from the crowded streets. You can hear the birds in the morning more than you hear any cars. The school building is simple and spread out. We don’t have much in the way of high-tech gadgets, but we have plenty of room for the kids to run around during their break time. Our staff often comes from the surrounding villages, so everyone knows each other’s families. When it rains, the ground gets a bit muddy and we have to remind the children to wipe their feet before coming into the classrooms. The rooms are basic with wooden desks and windows that look out over the fields. We spend our time making sure the books are in order and the playground equipment is safe for use. It is a quiet life out here. Most of the day is spent following the syllabus and making sure the kids understand their math and science. There is no big sign or flashing lights, just a gate and a small sign with the name. It’s just a normal school doing its thing in the countryside.
