We operate Shiva Plastic Udyog out of a small place in Doongar Mohalla, over in Shahdara. Our address is 284/7. It’s a residential-feeling area that’s got a lot of small businesses tucked into it. We’ve been working with plastic for a long time. The smell of the machines is something you just get used to after the first week. It’s not a big factory; it’s more of a workshop where we all know each other’s names. We don’t have a website or any fancy advertisements. Most people just know where we are at 284/7 and they come by when they need something made or fixed. The floor is always covered in little bits of plastic offcuts. We try to sweep up at the end of the day, but it’s a losing battle. We aren't trying to be the biggest plastic company in India. We just want to make sure we do a good enough job that people come back. It’s hard work, especially in the summer when it gets really hot inside, but we keep at it. We’ve got a couple of old machines that have been with us since the start. They’re a bit temperamental, but we know how to handle them. Shahdara is home to us, and being in Doongar Mohalla feels right. Just a local shop doing what we can with what we have. The machines we use make a specific rhythmic thumping sound that I can hear in my sleep.
